About PEPPER'S PROJECT

PEPPER’S PROJECT is an organization for helping young Japanese artists of today’s new generations in managing variety of projects from art exhibition to art-coordination for venues around the world. Through those art projects and exhibitions PEPPER’S PROJECT offers, a new wave of Japan’s art has been introduced to many different parts of the world.

from 1998

PEPPER'S PROJECT has actively supported young Japanese artists of all art genres and turned it into projects in 1998, sending out messages in forms of art.

And in 1998, Pepper's Gallery was founded in Ginza, Tokyo. Between 2000 and 2006, art exhibition called PEPPER'S PROJECT EXHIBITION was conducted in conjunction with another gallery called "Pepper's Loft Gallery".

PEPPER'S PROJECT EXHIBITION had art's theme and messages on the X axis, and design, architecture, movie, media art and all other genres and fields of contemporary art on its Y axis, and we crossed over them as well. In 17 years between 1998 to 2013, we conducted many different genres of art as "art series" in our gallery programs from dance performance, theater to music and it was called PEPPER'S PROJECT EXHIBITION, and many young Japanese artists started there careers as artists from here.

from 2006

As an art gallery, we found only certain core art fans have visited our gallery through "exhibitions in the gallery", and to break such confines, we started conducting "projects around the city" for both domestic and international market. Our past projects include "Out Put Program": art in cafes and beauty saloons in Tokyo & NY, and an ongoing project "ART CROSS PROJECT": introducing young artists who dresses up the city with art. "YOUNG ARTIST'S BOOKS PROJECT" is an ongoing project launched in 2007 in bookstores around Tokyo and NY, and also "Emerging Japanese Artists exhibition in NY" directly introduces young Japanese artists to NY.

from 2014

In December 2013, PEPPER’S PROJECT closed its gallery in Ginza, and now PEPPER’S became an organization who supports and introduces young Japanese artists through variety of art projects and to make it even more attractive for all.

SCREENING PROGRAM

In "PEPPER'S PROJECT", movies and films are also exhibited in Pepper's Gallery through "PEPPER'S PROJECT EXHIBITION" both in Japan and NY.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

Through PEPPER’S PROJECT, we have tried to cross over many genres and categories of contemporary art from contemporary dance to sound art.

It went well with Pepper’s Gallery which is surrounded by cement walls.

Especially in 2001, many exhibitions and shows were conducted in challenging combining arts and performances: ART meets Dance, ART meets BUTO, ART meets, ART meets MOVING. These exhibitions were titled "PERFORMANCE WEEK" and were held in almost every weekends, which drew many people's attention.

OUT PUT PROGRAM

As an art gallery, we found only certain core art fans have visited our gallery through "exhibitions in the gallery", and to break such confines, we started conducting "projects around the city" for both domestic and international market since 2006.

Our projects include year-round art installations in cafes and beauty saloons in center of Tokyo, and art shows and exhibition in certain cities and vicinities. YOUNG ARTISTS' BOOKSFAIR (Tokyo) and JAPANESE YOUNG ARTISTS' BOOKS FAIR (NY) are some of our challenges as well. Our projects also include art exhibitions in interior decorating shops, beauty saloons and cafes.
